Kenan Yavuz Ethnography Museum, established in the village of Beşpınar in Bayburt, was awarded the “2021 Silletto Award” in the “European Museum of the Year Awards” competition held annually by the European Museum Forum, which determines the most prestigious museums.

Businessperson Kenan Yavuz established a culture house in the village of Beşpınar, where he was born and raised, on a total of 15 thousand square meters, of which 4 thousand 500 square meters of indoor and 10 thousand 500 square meters of open space. Serving as a cultural house for about 6 years, the venue has completed its development to a great extent and gained the status of “Official Private Museum” in 2019. Despite the new type of coronavirus epidemic, the museum was visited by 12 thousand people during the summer period.
The museum, which is one of the most important cultural and tourism destinations of the city, won the “2021 Silletto Award” within the scope of the “European Museum of the Year Awards”.
Kenan Yavuz, the founder of the museum, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that he started building the museum in 2013 as part of a social responsibility project to pay the debt of loyalty to the land where he was born and raised.
Stating that the museum was registered as a private museum by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2019, Yavuz said, “We are honored that Kenan Yavuz Ethnography Museum has one of the most important, most respected and prestigious awards in the world. The international recognition of the museum we built in our village and crowning it with an award has led us to great happiness on behalf of my country, Bayburt, and Anatolian lands. ” said.
Yavuz pointed out that the European Museum Forum gave awards in 6 main categories in the museum of the year award process in Europe and said:
“The carrier of cultural heritage, which is one of these main categories, has been registered as an exemplary project for revealing successful examples of cultural projects, contributing to the socio-economic and socio-cultural life of the region and promoting the region’s culture to the world by advancing the prosperity of the region. And our museum was crowned with the first prize in this category. ”
Yavuz stated that in the award justification of the museum, the architectural texture of the region, its scent, its integration with the folklore and the people of the region, the exemplary projects that meet with their cultural roots and bring those cultural roots to the present and the future.

Expressing that the crowning of the museum with an international award made a significant contribution to the city’s becoming a cultural destination, Yavuz said:
“One of the most important factors in winning this award is the support of the people of Bayburt, my village and the Bayburt bureaucracy, especially our Governor Cüneyt Epcim, and the extraordinary interest we received from the press. Our advisory board, members of the board of directors, everyone is an extraordinary volunteer mobilization, a journey that we started with an amateur spirit turned into a professional structure. Bayburt is the homeland of Dede Korkut, Poet Zihni, Father Ağlar, one of the ancient lands of Turkey. It is really a great responsibility to have the mission of bringing the ancient culture here to the agenda of our country and the world. “
