The winners of this year’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism Special Awards, given to those who contribute with original works, applications, interpretations or scientific research in Turkey, have been announced.

The Ahi Culture Research and Education Foundation, Kenan Yavuz Ethnography Museum and Chess Museum (Gökyay Foundation) have been determined as the new winners of the 2022 awards.

The awards, given to appreciate and encourage communities or organizations that serve Turkey’s cultural heritage and the art world in unity, were determined by the jury’s evaluation.

The jury, chaired by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Özgül Özkan Yavuz, included Deputy Minister Ahmet Misbah Demircan, General Director of Fine Arts Ömer Faruk Belviranlı, General Director of State Theaters Mustafa Kurt, Rector of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Prof. Dr. Handan İnci Elçi, Vice President of the Presidential Culture and Arts Policies Board Prof. Dr. İskender Pala and Rector of Ankara Music and Fine Arts University Prof. Dr. Erhan Özden.

The Ahi Culture Research and Education Foundation was deemed worthy of this valuable award due to its important work on keeping the “Ahilik” culture alive, which is a very deep-rooted part of our culture and is based on “morality” and “work”, in other words, honest earnings with sweat, as well as its representations and publishing activities regarding the Ahilik culture.

Kenan Yavuz Ethnography Museum was another institution that was deemed worthy of this valuable award due to its contribution to the economic development of the region it is located in, its increasing economic development and social life quality by working together with the public, and its winning an important award on international platforms by presenting original examples in experience tourism.

Chess Museum (Gökyay Foundation) was another winner of this valuable award due to its unique collection in number and quality that deserves to be included in the Guinness Book of Records; its works that ensure the spread and adoption of chess, which provides analytical and multi-dimensional thinking, especially among young people; and its being a pleasant meeting point that shares the artistic, cultural and historical aspects of chess with the society and contributes to the cultural and artistic life of the Capital.

I expect them to make the necessary effort.
